Royal Pickerel Rush (Pontederia Dilatata) is a robust plant with swirling, glossy, emerald-green foliage and spear shaped leaves. The flower spikes on Royal Pickerel Rush are drenched in shades of wedgewood-blue and are held above the foliage and bloom in late spring until frost, attracting butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds to your water garden. Royal Pickerel Rush is often considered a mainstay of the water garden. A beautiful addition to your pond or water garden. Looks great when grown in large tubs or containers as well. Plant Royal Pickerel Rush in a large, deep container using loam soil and place in your pond with 3 - 5 inches of water above the roots. Adding some heavy rocks to the bottom of the container will keep your Pickerel Rush from tipping over in strong winds. Plants grow 2 - 4 feet tall with an 18 - 24 inch spread, and blooms best in full sun. Makes a wonderful focal point, giving vertical interest, or makes a stately addition at the edge of your pond.
