Red Ludwigia (Ludwigia Repens) is excellent for filtering water in all ponds! Red Ludwigia is also excellent food for tadpoles.

Red Ludwigia (Ludwigia Repens)  is a lovely reddish-green pond plant that grows beautifully when the roots are planted in the substrate of your pond or in small pots using pool filter sand and placed on the shelves of your pond. It gets its nutrition through its foliage. This pond plant grows well  during the summer months in your pond,  if you want the Red Ludwigia pond plant to be a little bushier, just trim a few inches off the top!  The side shoots will grow bushier from your trimming and you can plant the cuttings in the substrate as well! Red Ludwigia can be grown beneath the surface of the water as an oxygenator as well as above the water as an emergent plant. Leaf color on the Red Ludwigia range from reddish-bronze to green. For best color, plant this little jewel where it will receive plenty of sunshine.

Place this lovely reddish-green oxygenator, Red Ludwigia, in 6 inch pots filled with aquarium gravel, 1/8 inch pea gravel or sand and place on shelves in your pond or at the bottom of the pond tucked into the substrate, in full sun to part shade. To make the plant a little bushier, simply trim an inch or two off the top! Cuttings from this plant can be planted as the plant gets its nutrition from its leaves! Red Ludwigia can be grown indoors in an aquarium over the winter months.
