Red Silk Lotus is an early blooming lotus with lush, full, multi-petal flowers that are drenched in deep-red color. Red Silk Lotus blooms all season long! Long, rich-red petals create this AMAZING flower--one of the prettiest blooms around!
Plant after all danger of frost has passed. Try to plant your Red Silk Lotus tuber before the end of May, plant in wide (16-30 inch wide or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with a couple of inches of soil while leaving the growth tips exposed. Add three or four inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors. (Lotus need at least 8+ hours of sunlight daily to grow and bloom!) In a week or two you should have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water, a week or so after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus.
Lotus are very heavy feeders! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs + Humates for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press three or four fertilizer tabbs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Do this each month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September). Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
