Mini Mali Hardy Water Lily — The Tiny White Treasure for Small Ponds & Tubs

The Mini Mali Hardy Water Lily is a compact hardy water lily that delivers pure-white, double-petaled blooms (2–4") over petite green pads. A perfect perennial pond plant for patio bowls, whiskey barrels, and small lined ponds, Mini Mali blooms steadily from late spring into fall and brings upscale elegance to tight spaces in any water garden.

Why Customers Love It

  • Snowy, multi-petaled flowers in a truly small footprint

  • Heavy bloomer in full sun with a simple tablet schedule

  • Container-friendly: thrives in 9–12" wide shallow pots

  • Hardy & dependable—returns yearly with minimal fuss

Plant Requirements (quick reference)

  • Sun: Full sun, 6+ hours of strong midday light

  • Container: 9–12"+ wide, shallow aquatic container (fabric pots preferred)

  • Depth (soil surface → water surface): 6–14" (shallower = more flowers)

  • Spread: ~1.5–2.5 ft at maturity

  • Soil: Heavy loam topsoil only (no bagged mix, peat, or gravel)

Care & Fertilizing (simple schedule)

  • Fertilizer tablets: 2–3 tablets on the 1st & 15th each month (May–September)

  • Application: Push tablets 2–3" into the soil around (not on) the crown

  • Maintenance: Trim spent blooms/yellow leaves; divide annually if the rhizome reaches the pot edge

Water Lily Planting Tips

  • Plant shallower (6–10") to warm the crown and jump-start buds

  • Keep surface water open and unshaded—pads are your solar panels

  • Never cover the crown with stones or gravel; leave it slightly exposed

  • Use wide, shallow containers to encourage rhizome run and more flowers

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

  • Plant in full sun and heavy loam

  • Fertilize twice monthly for continuous blooms

  • Repot immediately on arrival; keep all parts wet while planting

Don’t

  • ❌ Don’t use compost/peat mixes, “aquatic media,” or gravel (they float, rot, or smother crowns)

  • ❌ Don’t let floating plants shade Mini Mali—light drives flowering

  • ❌ Don’t plant too deep (>14") if you want frequent blooms
