Amethyst Mist Tropical Water Lily

The Amethyst Mist Water Lily is one of the most striking tropical waterlilies, admired for its semi-double, daisy-like blooms in soft shades of Wedgewood blue. Each star-shaped blossom has lighter tones at the petal base, creating a luminous, radiant effect that makes this variety unforgettable. Its flowers are beautifully paired with colorful mottled lily pads, offering bold texture and contrast at the water’s surface.

A customer favorite—and one of our personal favorites as well— the Amethyst Mist Water Lily is a prolific bloomer and a dazzling specimen for any pond or water garden. Blooming throughout the summer months, it’s the perfect choice for gardeners seeking elegance, fragrance, and reliable performance from their pond plants.

🌱 Planting & Care Instructions

  • Amethyst Mist Water Lily Size: Medium–large tropical variety

  • Amethyst Mist Spread: 4–7 feet, depending on fertilization and container size

  • Amethyst Mist Container Size: Large 2–7 gallon wide, shallow fabric pond pot recommended

  • Amethyst Mist Depth: Best blooming at 6–16 inches below the water surface; tolerates up to 24–30 inches, though fewer flowers at greater depths

  • Soil: Heavy loam soil only (avoid aquatic planting media, pea gravel, stones, or bagged compost mixes—all lead to poor performance or mortality). If loam isn’t available, use PondGro Aquatic Loam Soil, which can be mixed with up to 40% sand (never more).

  • Fertilizing the Amethyst Mist: Apply 3–4 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets every 2 weeks (on the 1st and 15th of each month) or use Landon’s Granular Fertilizer for extended feeding. Consistent fertilization ensures strong growth and continual flowers through summer and fall.

  • Fragrance: Light, sweet scent

  • Winter Hardiness: USDA Zones 9–12 (annual elsewhere)

📦 Seasonal Shipping Information for Tropical Water Lilies

Tropical water lilies are often ready a few weeks later than other pond plants in spring. They typically ship between May and August/September when warm weather ensures healthy growth.

  • If your order includes a tropical water lily, the entire order will be held until the tropical is available.

  • If you want to receive other pond plants sooner, please place two separate orders.

  • In northern regions, tropical water lilies are generally ready just as it becomes safe to ship pond plants to your area.

💡 PondMegastore Tip: Regularly divide roots if plants become cramped, as crowded pots will reduce blooming. For in-ground ponds without liners, anchor in embankment soil 6–10 inches below the waterline and protect new plantings from wildlife for the first 6–10 weeks.
