Luxor Waterlily,
A new Hardy ISG waterlily.
The Luxor waterlily is a striking medium to large lavender purple waterlily with green pads. Be careful when dividing this waterlily, and be sure not to overly bury its rhizome. It needs fertilizer; it cannot be planted in stone and is like a full sun area with lots of space and a shallow area in the water to be planted initially.
What is a Hardy ISG? That is a cross between a hardy (perennial) parent and a tropical (annual) parent. The offspring will fall somewhere between those parents in hardiness. Usually, they survive winters but stay dormant well beyond a normal hardy and flowering later in the spring or summer. They also need more fertilizer and sunlight. We suggest larger pots, at least 15 inches wide, and planting these very shallow, only 6 to 10 inches below the waterline. Fertilize them twice monthly with 4 to 6 fertilizer tablets during the growing season.
Waterlilies are not plants that must be acclimated on arrival, but they can dry out quickly. Please have all your items ready before removing them from the box. They need to be planted either the same day they arrive or probably the next morning, or you may lose the leaves and have to wait a good number of days or weeks for substantial growth from the rhizome, as the leaves are where the sugar is mainly made for more leaves and eventually the flowers. Please think of the lily pads as solar panels for plant growth; the more you have, the faster they work with the sun and fertilizers to maximize growth and flowers.
