Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily – A Sunset in Bloom

Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily is one of the most spectacular hybrids from world-renowned hybridizer Perry Slocum. This exceptional perennial water lily blends peach, apricot, pink, and yellow hues together in each bloom, creating the look of a perfect summer sunset reflected on the water.

The blossoms sit gracefully above slightly mottled green pads, forming a dazzling display in any pond. This hardy water lily is also a prolific bloomer, flowering all summer long until frost. With a spread of 4–6 feet, Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily is ideal for medium to large ponds, adding warmth, color, and elegance to your water garden.

Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily Planting and Care

  • Container Size: Plant in a large 16-inch-wide container or larger. Fabric aquatic grow pots are ideal.

  • Soil Type: Use heavy loam topsoil only. Avoid bagged compost or lightweight mixes, which float and rot in water.

  • Planting Depth (Soil to Water Surface): 6–24 inches beneath the surface. Start shallow (6–12 inches) until well established, then lower deeper if desired.

  • Sunlight Needs: Requires full sun – at least 5–6 hours of direct, unobstructed sunlight daily.

  • Fertilizing: Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily is a heavy feeder. Use 4–6 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs on the 1st and 15th of each month from spring through late summer.

Do’s and Don’ts for Perry’s Orange Sunset Hardy Waterlily

✅ Do:

  • Plant in full sun for maximum flowering.

  • Use loam soil in a wide container or earth-bottom pond.

  • Fertilize consistently twice a month during the growing season.

  • Divide rhizomes every 1–2 years to prevent overcrowding and promote healthy blooming.

❌ Don’t:

  • Avoid using bagged soil or compost, as they can rot and pollute pond water.

  • Don’t cover the crown with stones or gravel — this suffocates growth.

  • Don’t let other pond plants (like floaters or invasive marginals) shade Perry’s Orange Sunset; lilies need open surface space to thrive.

  • Don’t allow roots or leaves to dry out during unpacking. Hardy water lilies must be planted immediately upon arrival.
