Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily – Brilliant Yellow & Beautifully Scented

The Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily is a new small-to-medium hardy variety with an extra-special charm: its fragrance is stronger than most hardy lilies, especially noticeable on the first day each flower opens. The blossoms are an incredibly bright, pure yellow with no peach or orange tones — making this hardy water lily brighter and bolder than even the famous Joey Tomocik.

Compact yet floriferous, the Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily is an ideal pond plant for water gardens of all sizes. With its striking yellow flowers, sweet scent, and vigorous growth, it will quickly become a centerpiece of your pond from late spring through early fall.

Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily Proper Planting and Care

  • Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily Planting Depth: Best at 5–10 inches below the water’s surface (from soil top to waterline). Can tolerate depths up to 26 inches, though blooming decreases at deeper levels.

  • Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily Container Size: Use a 14–20 inch wide pot if planting in a lined pond; fabric pond containers work beautifully.

  • Soil: Only plant in heavy loam topsoil (from your yard). Never use bagged compost or mixes — they float, rot, and damage roots.

  • Sunlight Needs of the Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily: Requires full sun (at least 6–7 hours daily) for strong flowering.

  • Division: Divide the rhizome once in spring and again in midsummer for maximum flowering. This hardy water lily responds quickly to division and fresh soil.

Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily Fertilizing Schedule

  • Fertilize consistently from spring through fall (April–September).

  • Insert 3–4 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets into the soil on the 1st and 15th of each month.

  • Place tablets 3–4 inches from the crown to promote strong roots and abundant flowers.

Do’s and Don’ts for Fragrance and Fortune Hardy Water Lily

Do’s
✅ Plant the Fragrance And Fortune Hardy Water Lily in full direct sun for maximum blooms and fragrance
✅ Use wide, shallow containers with heavy loam soil for proper growth
✅ Fertilize regularly throughout the growing season for continual flowers
✅ Divide rhizomes once or twice per season to prevent overcrowding and encourage new growth

Don’ts
❌ Do not use bagged soils, peat, or aquatic planting media — these float, rot, and cause plant failure
❌ Do not cover the rhizome crown with stones or gravel — the crown must remain exposed to sunlight for healthy growth
❌ Do not let the water lily dry out during unpacking — plant immediately and keep all parts wet until it is in the pond
❌ Do not allow floating plants (duckweed, water hyacinth, water lettuce) to shade your hardy water lily pads
❌ Do not overcrowd with other lilies — each crown must have space to spread leaves across the water for photosynthesis and flowering
