Blue Lotus of the Nile & othe Famous Blue Lotus Flowers
The Blue Lotus of the Nile (Cerulea) is the most well known or famous water lily that was in the bast historically called a lotus before plant classification which separated water lilies and lotus. That causes much confusion today as there are no such Lotus that are blue and the plant that has always grown in the Nile with the aphrodesiaic and psycadelic properties that the egyptians used is classifed as a water lily.
There is also Micrantha from west Africa a smaller blue water lily and a white water lily often called lotus from Thailand we carry. In Vietnam and India there are Red Night blooming Water lilies called lotus still today which are night blooming water lilies. For True lotus see our Sacred Lotus section, those grow tall above the water and have the hydrophobic leaves and edible tubers. They grow comepletly differently and should only be planted in spring. Below are our Blue and white waterlily Lotus which ship as live plants Late spring all through summer, need to be in warm water in full sun all day (no growing inside). Micrantha is the smallest needing 2.5 feet across minimum. Cerulea needs 5 feet across of space for each plant as does white lotus of Thailand and 2 gallon pots of heavy loam soil to grow.
