White Lotus of Thailand Annual Water Lily (Khao Mongkol “White Fortune”) — Pure White, Heavy Bloomer

White Lotus of Thailand (annual water lily), also called Khao Mongkol meaning “White Fortune,” is a medium-to-large annual water lily that’s wonderfully easy to grow and blooms profusely in full sun. This divine Thai variety produces pure white flowers over solid green pads and can deliver an astonishing 80–140 blooms in a season—often 1–3 flowers per day when well fed.

Want an even bigger show? You can plant two together in a 14-inch+ container if you double the fertilizer, which can push the display to 200+ blooms per season in ideal conditions. If you want a reliable white annual water lily for your pond plants collection, this one is a true star.

Why Customers Love It

  • Heavy bloomer: often 80–140 flowers per season (1–3 per day)

  • Easy to grow with simple full-sun care

  • Pure white blooms + solid green pads = clean, elegant look

  • Can be planted two per pot for an oversized bloom display

Plant Requirements (quick reference)

  • Type: Annual water lily

  • Sun: Full sun, all-day direct sun (6+ hours strong midday minimum)

  • Container: 14"+ wide shallow aquatic pot (fabric pots preferred)

    • Optional: 2 plants in one pot if you double fertilizer

  • Depth (soil surface → water surface): 6–14" for best blooming; tolerates to ~26" with fewer flowers

  • Spread: ~3.5–5 ft across

  • Soil: Heavy loam topsoil only (no bagged mix, peat, compost, “aquatic media,” or gravel)

Care & Fertilizing (simple schedule)

  • 1 plant per pot: 3–4 tablets on the 1st & 15th each month (May–September)

  • 2 plants in one pot: Double the feeding (example: 6–8 tablets on the 1st & 15th)

  • Application: Push tablets 3–4" into the soil around (not on) the crown

  • Don’t skip doses: missed feedings reduce bloom count fast

Water Lily Planting Tips

  • Plant shallower (6–10") to warm the crown and maximize daily blooms

  • Keep surface water open and unshaded—pads are solar panels for flowers

  • Use wide containers to support steady flowering

  • Still water shows flowers best; avoid splashing/aeration directly over pads

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

  • Plant in full sun and heavy loam

  • Fertilize twice monthly for nonstop blooms

  • Consider two plants per pot only if you commit to double feeding

  • Repot immediately on arrival; keep all parts wet while planting

Don’t

  • ❌ Don’t use compost/peat mixes, “aquatic media,” or gravel/stones

  • ❌ Don’t let floating plants shade pads—shade = fewer blooms

  • ❌ Don’t plant too deep (>26") if you want frequent flowers
