Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily – A Multicolored Gem

The Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily is a brand-new perennial water lily hybridized by Tony Moore. This spectacular hardy water lily shows off multicolored flowers and mottled lily pads, making it one of the most eye-catching pond plants available. Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily is slightly smaller than its sister plant, Painted Lady, but just as impressive when it comes to color and performance.

A medium-sized hardy water lily, Painted Pom Pom is winter-hardy across all of the continental United States. When given the right care, it will bloom reliably from late spring into fall, adding vibrant energy to your pond or water garden.

Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily Proper Planting and Care

  • Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily Planting Depth: Begin 6–12 inches below the water surface to establish. Once rooted, Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily can be lowered up to 30 inches, though shallow planting ensures more blooms.

  • Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily Container Size: Use a 12–16 inch wide, shallow container for best growth.

  • Soil: Plant only in heavy loam soil. Avoid bagged potting mixes, which float and rot.

  • Light Needs: A minimum of 6+ hours of direct, unobstructed sunlight daily.

  • Earth-Bottom Ponds: This hardy water lily can also be planted directly in natural earth-bottom ponds.

Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily Fertilizing Schedule

  • Start with 4–5 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets at planting, placed into the soil around the rhizome.

  • Once established, fertilize on the 1st and 15th of each month during the growing season.

  • Use 3–4 tablets per feeding to encourage continuous blooming through summer.

  • Fertilizer is safe for goldfish, frogs, and all pond life.

Do’s and Don’ts for Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily

  • ✅ Plant Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily in full sun for best growth and flowers.

  • ✅ Use heavy loam soil from your yard or our PondGro Aquatic Loam Soil.

  • ✅ Repot or divide annually in spring to maintain healthy growth and prevent overcrowding.

  • ✅ Fertilize twice monthly during the growing season for non-stop blooms.

  • ❌ Do not place stones, gravel, or aquatic planting media on top of the rhizome. These cause rot and high mortality.

  • ❌ Do not use bagged soils rich in compost, which decompose in water.

  • ❌ Do not allow large koi, carp, turtles, deer, or muskrats to access Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lilies — they will eat or uproot them.

  • Do not let Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lily dry out when opening your package. The roots, stems, and leaves must remain wet at all times. Plant immediately upon arrival. No acclimation period is required, but drying out even briefly can cause serious harm.

  • Do not let Painted Pom Pom Hardy Water Lilies be crowded or shaded. Floating plants or nearby water lilies can block sunlight and reduce blooming.
