Izia Hardy Water Lily — Sunny Yellow, Small-Space Superstar

The Izia Hardy Water Lily is a new French introduction that brings bright, sunny-yellow blooms to small ponds, patio tubs, and container water gardens. A compact hardy water lily with a higher petal count and a longer bloom season than Helvola, Izia delivers cheerful color, clean form, and dependable performance from late spring into fall. If you’re looking for an easy, elegant water lily for tight spaces, this pond plant is a standout.

Why Customers Love It

  • Small-footprint, big color—perfect for tubs, whiskey barrels, and small ponds

  • Prolonged blooming with a refined, many-petaled flower

  • Easy care in full sun with simple tablet fertilizing

  • Hardy & reliable—returns each year when planted properly

Plant Requirements (quick reference)

  • Sun: Full sun, 6+ hours of strong midday light

  • Container: 8–16"+ wide, shallow aquatic container (fabric pots preferred)

  • Depth (soil surface → water surface): 3–15" (shallower boosts flowers)

  • Spread: ~1–2.5 ft at maturity (compact)

  • Soil: Heavy loam topsoil (no bagged mixes, peat, or gravel)

Care & Fertilizing (simple schedule)

  • Fertilizer tablets: 2–4 tablets on the 1st & 15th of each month (May–September)

  • How to apply: Push tablets 3–4" into the soil around (not on) the crown

  • Maintenance: Trim spent blooms/yellow leaves; divide annually if the rhizome reaches the pot edge

Water Lily Planting Tips

  • Plant shallower (3–8") to warm the crown and jump-start buds

  • Keep pads unshaded—remove floaters so leaves get direct sun

  • Never cover the crown with stones or gravel (tender rhizome)

  • Use wide, shallow containers for more flowers and easier division

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

  • Plant in full sun and heavy loam

  • Fertilize twice monthly for continuous blooms

  • Repot immediately on arrival; keep all parts wet while planting

Don’t

  • ❌ Don’t use compost/peat mixes, “aquatic media,” or gravel (they float, rot, or smother crowns)

  • ❌ Don’t let floating plants shade Izia—light drives flowering

  • ❌ Don’t plant too deep (>15") if you want frequent blooms
