Bullfrog Tadpoles and Green Frogs are great for larger ponds. **Do not place these in buckets or tanks for any amount of time. They have incredibly fast digestive systems and will foul the water and cause quick death outside a pond setup.** Place in the pond immediately on arrival. Do not float the bags to acclimate. Net out your tadpoles and discard the spent dirty water away from your pond.
The tadpoles need to eat soft vegetation. Tadpoles eat Moneywort, Frogbit and Vallisneria. Tadpoles can go through a lot of submerged aquatic plants in a very short time.
Tadpoles also eat algae and mosquito larvae in the pond--a great benefit to you, the pond owner!
For stocking large ponds it is best to stock tadpoles before (if ever) adding bass or other predator fish.
The frogs and tadpoles love a healthy, vegetative environment to hang around a pond. Plants provide food and hiding spaces for all stages of tadpole development. If you do not have vegetation, native plants and/or flowering plants, the adult frogs will have less interest in staying in your pond if another source of water is nearby. Be sure to encourage them to stay in large numbers by establishing native plants. We can help you source those for your area.
