Helvola Hardy Waterlily – The Miniature Yellow Gem

The Helvola Hardy Waterlily is one of the smallest and most charming waterlilies available, making it a favorite for small ponds, tubs, or container gardens. With tiny 2–3 inch, star-shaped yellow blooms and heavily mottled pads just 1–2 inches across, Helvola packs incredible beauty into a petite package.

Despite its size, Helvola is a vigorous bloomer, producing flowers all summer long. It has a compact 1–2 foot spread, making it ideal for water features where space is limited. While its bloom window each day is shorter (typically from 11 am to 3 pm), the bright blossoms more than make up for it with their sunny cheer and abundance.

This miniature hardy waterlily is an excellent choice for those wanting to enjoy the magic of waterlilies in smaller spaces.

Helvola Hardy Waterlily Planting and Care

Planting Depth

  • Place Helvola 6–12 inches below the water’s surface.

  • Ideal for very shallow areas in tubs or container gardens.

Container Size

  • Use a 10–12 inch wide pot for best growth.

  • A small aquatic fabric grow pot ensures healthy roots and easy placement.

Soil

  • Plant in heavy loam topsoil or our PondGro Aquatic Planting Soil.

  • Avoid bagged compost or potting mixes that float and rot in water.

Sunlight Needs

  • Helvola requires full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for reliable blooming.

Helvola Hardy Waterlily Fertilizing Schedule

  • Fertilize on the 1st and 15th of each month during the growing season (May–September).

  • Insert 2–3 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs into the soil, about 2–3 inches deep near the rhizome.

  • Consistent feeding ensures non-stop blooming in summer.

Do’s and Don’ts for Helvola Hardy Waterlily

Do plant in full sun for reliable flowering.
Do use small, shallow containers for tub or patio pond growing.
Do fertilize twice monthly to keep blooms coming through summer.

Don’t let Helvola dry out during unpacking — plant immediately upon arrival.
Don’t overcrowd with other plants; Helvola needs open water around its pads to bloom properly.
Don’t use rocks, gravel, or bagged soil — only heavy loam supports healthy growth.
