Flame 14 Lotus (Huoyan 14)
Flame 14 Lotus has fiery-red inner petals and long, red outer petals that add drama and intrigue to this exotic lotus specimen. Flame 14 Lotus looks as though it is lit from within with a bright flame! Flame 14 Lotus has double flowers and looks amazing when planted in containers and placed in a sunny spot on your porch or patio. Flame 14 Lotus grows 2 - 4 feet tall in wide, shallow containers in pots on your patio or in your pond.
Plant your Flame 14 Lotus in a wide (18 - 30 inches wide or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench with growth tips pointing up. Cover the lotus tuber with soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Add about three to four inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors. Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight to bloom! In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water. In another week or two you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize your lotus
Once you have aerial leaves, simply press four fertilizer tabbs into the soil around the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Use four fertilizer tabs per month from June through September as these are the growing/blooming months of a lotus. Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for ease of use, optimum growth and best bloom!
