Chinese Red Ruijin Lotus
Another lotus in the city series, Red Ruijin Lotus is a beautiful, red, double petal lotus that will grace your pond or water feature. Large 6 - 8 inch, beautiful, multi-petal flowers are held high above the elegant, green foliage. Yellow gold centers add a regal touch to this Chinese gem! Red Ruijin Lotus is stunning in pots but also beautiful when pots are placed in the ground and lotus are added to the terrestrial garden for added interest! Red Ruijin Lotus grows to 4 feet tall or taller when planted in very wide containers (24 - 48 inch wide container or wider)
Lotus Planting Instructions
Plant your lotus tuber in May, after all danger of frost has passed. Plant in a wide, shallow container (24-48 inches wide) or wider. Use heavy loam soil and dig a trench in the soil where you will place your lotus tuber. Cover the lotus tuber with soil while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add four to six inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors. (Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight to grow and bloom!) In a week or two you will have coin leaves on the surface of the water. A couple of weeks after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize your lotus.
Lotus are very heavy feeders. We recommend WATERLILY WORLD FERTILIZER TABS + HUMATES for optimum growth, best bloom and ease of use. Simply press four to six fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Do this once a month throughout the growing/blooming season (June through September). Your lotus should GROW and BLOOM the very first year!
