Brilliant Red/Dwarf-Medium/Single Petal
Plant in a wide (16 to 30 inches or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench in the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench-- being careful not to damage the growth tips. Gently cover the tuber with soil but leave the growth tips exposed. Add two or three inches of water above the soil and place in a sunny location outdoors (8 + hours of sunlight daily). In a week or so you will have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water, a week or two after that you will have aerial leaves growing out of the water. When you have aerial leaves, it is time to fertilize.
(A reminder to keep an eye on the water level above the soil on your lotus plant--always replace any water that has evaporated during the hot summer months.)
We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates for ease of use, optimum growth and best bloom! Simply press three fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. Do this each month during the growing/blooming season (June through September). Your lotus should grow and bloom the very first year!
