Chinese Red Xiebeipo Lotus is a delightful lotus hybrid with large flowers in shades of brilliant-red on this great bloomer! What a wonderful way to dress up your water garden with this exceptional, tall, brilliant-red single-petal specimen. Makes quite a statement when placed in your pond or in ornate containers on your balcony, deck, terrace or patio! This tall lotus grows 4 - 5 feet when planted in very wide containers.
Plant this tall lotus in a wide, shallow, no-holes container (24 - 48 inches or wider) using loam soil. Dig a trench in the surface of the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, take care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Carefully add 4 - 5 inches of water above the surface of the soil and place your container in a sunny location ( 8+ hours) outdoors. In a week or two you should have coin leaves growing on the surface of the water--a week or two after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may give your lotus 1/2 dose of fertilizer. Simply press 3 - 5 fertilizer tabs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots.
Lotus are very heavy feeders. We recommend that you feed your lotus 6 - 10 fertilizer tabs each month throughout the growing/blooming season, June through September. Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates may be used on all of your aquatic plants.
