Hurricane Lotus has striking, wide outer petals, shorter inner petals and awesome color on perfectly shaped blooms that make this tall lotus simply spectacular! Breathtaking as a focal point in your pond or as a showcase centerpiece in large containers on your patio or pool side. An absolutely picturesque lotus for your water garden this year! Blooms are held above the spectacular foliage! Hurricane Lotus grows to 4' tall or taller.
Plant in a wide (24 - 48 inches or wider), shallow container using heavy loam soil. Dig a trench across the soil and gently place the lotus tuber in the trench with growth tips pointed up. Be careful not to damage the growth tips! Gently cover the tuber with soil but leaving the growth tips exposed. Add four to six inches of water over the soil and place the container in a sunny location outdoors. Lotus need 8+ hours of sunlight to grow and bloom! In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water, a week or so after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize your lotus.
Lotus are very heavy feeders! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabbs + Humates for ease of use, optimum growth and best bloom! Simply press 4 to 6 fertilizer tabbs into the soil near the roots of your lotus, being careful not to damage the roots. You should do this each month during the growing/blooming season (June through September).
Your lotus tuber should grow and bloom the very first year!
