How to plant your lotus tuber
Plant your lotus tuber in a wide, shallow, no-holes container using loam soil. Fill the container 3/4 of the way with loam soil and dig a shallow trench in the surface of the soil with your hand. Gently place the lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to break or damage the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Gently add 3 - 4 inches of water above the soil. Place the lotus container in an area outdoors that receives 8 - 12 hours of sunlight daily. In a week or two you should have coin leaves on the surface of the water, a week or two after that you should have aerial leaves growing out of the water. Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize you lotus. We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs.
How to fertilize your lotus
Once you have aerial leaves growing out of the water, you may fertilize your lotus. Your first dose of fertilizer should be 1/2 the recommended dosage. Two weeks after the first dose, you may fertilize your lotus again with the recommended dosage of fertilizer. After the second dose, you may fertilizer you lotus once a month throughout the growing/blooming season for optimum growth and best bloom. Your last dose of fertilizer should be in early September. This will allow your lotus to go into dormancy naturally.
